Adaptation in Mathematics for Pupils with SEND

This course will look at how learning within a teaching for mastery context can be adapted for pupils whose starting points are different from the majority of pupils in the class, due to having a special educational need (SEN). We will look at the small steps of progression within key learning points in mathematics across Key Stage 1 and Key Stage 2 and discuss the strategies that can be applied to enable access to these key concepts.

Outcomes:

• An understanding of what is meant by ‘adaptation’.
• Knowledge of the strategies that can be used to enable pupils to access concepts.
• A greater understanding of progression of mathematics across the primary phase outside your year group.
