Making accurate writing assessments in Year 1

This session will confirm core learning in the Year 1 programme of study for writing. Through discussion and collaboration, participants will explore the standards for writing in this year group. In the second half of the morning, we will agree assessment judgements in writing (GDS, EXS, WTS) similar to a consensus moderation session in previous years.

Materials will be gathered from this session in order to create a Merton Writing Exemplification package for Year 1 writing, to be shared across Merton’s primary schools.

Participants will:

• Have a secure understanding of the year 1 programme of study for writing
• Understand the standards for writing as a benchmark for tracking attainment at the end of Year 1
• Be confident in the accuracy of the end of year assessment judgements for writing for their pupils
