Venue:

The Chaucer Centre, Canterbury Road

Detail:

This course will help Year 4 teachers prepare their pupils for the multiplication tables check (MTC) that is a statutory assessment for all pupils in Year 4.

Whether your pupils are able to recall the facts already, or if they are struggling with ‘remembering’ facts such as 7 x 8, this course will provide guidance for both strengthening understanding of multiplication facts and helping pupils achieve fluency in their recall. Underpinning the content of this course are the principles and approaches of Teaching for Mastery.

This course is based on Baroody’s three phases of development to achieve fluency in recall of facts and will provide a clear explanation of why these three phases are important in pupils’ development. It will provide alternative approaches to the teaching of multiplication facts.

We will look at the process for administering the MTC in June and other aspects such as how to prepare, access arrangements and results.

Outcomes:

  • Ideas for teaching multiplication facts
  • Resources to take away and use in class
  • A good understanding of Baroody’s approach and the theory behind the teaching of multiplication facts
  • Understand the process of administering the check
