Venue:

Canons House, 19 Madeira Rd, Mitcham

Detail:

This course will look at key aspects of number sense that children experience early in their mathematics education. Acquiring secure understanding in these areas determines a pupil’s later success in maths, so a good grasp of these is essential to have in your maths teaching tool kit!

No matter what year group you teach in the primary phase, understanding number sense can help you identify gaps in pupils’ understanding at any age and therefore help you to move pupils forward mathematically.

We will look at how these aspects can be planned into teaching content across KS1 and 2 and will help to build your knowledge of mathematics subject knowledge and pedagogy more widely across the primary age-range.

Outcomes:

  • A deeper understanding of what is meant by ‘number sense’
  • Be better equipped to identify gaps in pupils’ mathematical understanding later in the primary phase
  • Develop subject knowledge beyond your own year group or phase
